A Grade 28 def Maroochydore 10

Steve Scotland writes…

I always knew that the game against Maroochydore was going to be a really tough game and the swans showed that they were up to the task. The score was pretty close there for most of the game with the swans peppering our line for 5 minutes straight in the second half. I was really pleased that we held them out. I thought that was a sign that we were pretty confident in our ability to defend our line. I also thought we are starting to control territory a lot better. We have learnt in earlier rounds that whilst we have fantastic attacking ability across the park, it accounts for nothing if you are camped in your own 22. We are maturing as a team and developing well with how to play the game in particular parts of the field.

There were a few stand outs on the weekend. Again I thought Anthony Graham played really well. He is playing really great football at the moment. Matty Macaulay played strongly again. I thought Steve Burrows played really well slotting in for an injured Cory TeHuia. It was pleasing to see Alexander Millington play well at the back. Besides a couple of average kicking options with a 12 men overlap, he played solidly and starting to hit his straps. I also thought big Trent at prop played well. He was really unlucky to be given a yellow card. Brett Letcher at 12 had a really solid defensive game, pulling off some really dominant tackles for most of the game.

I really think this weeks game against Caloundra is a really important game for us as a team. We have locked in second spot on the ladder and will play Noosa in the first semi – the winner decides who will host the grand final – but Caloundra are building really well. They have got a couple of great kids coming through who have given them a lot of enthusiasm and zip across the park. I see this game as really important to set the tone for our season. There are some really big bodies running around for Caloundra and they will be mixing it up against us. this is certainly a danger game for us.
